Free Checklist for Breaker Box Replacement
Everything you need to know before replacing your home's breaker box.
Your electrical panel is the silent heartbeat of your home. Just because it's old doesn't mean you need to rewire the entire house — and just because someone calls themselves an electrician doesn't mean they won't upsell out of fear.
5 signs your panel may need replacing: buzzing, sizzling, or hissing sounds near the breaker box; frequent partial power outages (especially random ones); warm or discolored breakers or nearby outlets; breakers tripping under small loads; a panel that is outdated or no longer code-compliant (especially pre-1980s).
Ask before agreeing to any work: Are you testing the system or guessing by visual inspection alone?
Ask: Will you pull permits and schedule an inspection?
Ask: Does your quote include AFCI/GFCI compliant breakers required by code?
Ask: Will the panel be properly grounded and bonded?
Ask: Is this a complete quote, or are surprise charges likely after the fact?
You don't need to be an electrician to make wise decisions. Slow down, ask good questions, and trust your peace more than their pressure.
