Freezing Fresh Herbs in Oil
Preserve flavor and save time — one cube at a time.
Preserve flavor and save time — one cube at a time.
If your garden or bundle of herbs is more than you can use, freezing them in oil is the secret to stretching flavor all year long.
Here’s How
- 1Chop fresh herbs like basil, rosemary, oregano, thyme, or parsley.
- 2Add about 1–2 tablespoons of herbs into each section of an ice cube tray.
- 3Pour olive oil or avocado oil over the herbs to cover.
- 4Freeze until solid, then pop out and store in a labeled freezer bag.
Tips
- –Use in sautéing, soups, sauces, or roasted veggies — no defrosting needed.
- –Label by herb type if storing multiple flavors.
- –Can also use melted butter instead of oil for richer recipes.
